Gaucho Bebop

September 17, 2007

Through a co-worker at OSH, I finally made the dive into part of the more popular world that is anime by means of the Cowboy Bebop series.  I suspect Joss Whedon probably watched this show and borrowed some of the themes for the “Firefly” world.  I cannot but recommend it, though more specific praise will have to come later.  I was up last night for a half-marathon of the show, wherein we watched 14 episodes back to back, and have 12 to go.  If I were a hard-core nerd, I probably would have watched the rest of them right then and there, but I was tired.  I’m developing my “marathon” stamina—it takes a lot of concentration, caffeine, and cushions to endure such a media assault.  There is also talk of a LotR marathon at some point.  I am amenable to such an idea, as I’ve not actually ever done that kind of thing before.  But there are some genres which should probably be avoided.  A “Buffy the V-Slayer” marathon would be ridiculous, both in duration and content.  At the end of the affair, all participants would likely be transformed into albinos and find themselves at odds with even muted shades of sunshine.

In other news, a DVD version of U2’s Popmart concert (Live from Mexico City) is coming out soon, and I preordered it from amazon.  I’ve been reverting to child-like peals of laughter every time I think about it.  Highlights are likely to include a 40-foot lemon, The Edge’s fu-manchu, and Bono being his usual theatric self.  More on this later (after I’ve seen it).  Watch Bebop, eat blueberries, listen to U2 (and Amos Lee), play the blues, learn to live.

This thread rocks.
