17 “employees” from private security firm Blackwater have been given partial immunity as “authorities” try and determine the whether or not the company is guilty of consistently instigating violence while in Iraq. The immunity is provisional—they’ll be protected as long as “their statements are true.” What kind of confidence are we to have that any kind of justice could possibly be served or that any kind of truth will come to the surface? The company was founded by a NAVY seal—these guys are taught to win by any means necessary. I’m not saying they are guilty, but does the State Department really believe that men who are capable of provoking shootouts won’t lie about it to save their own hides? The company name doesn’t really offer hopes of transparency.
